Nigerian media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo recently opened up on a podcast about how he made a life-changing financial decision at just twenty-four. According to him, after coming into some big money at the time, he chose to buy a house in Lekki rather than splurge on flashy cars or unnecessary luxuries.
He stated that he only just changed his car in 2024 after driving it for ten years. He mentioned that by the time he let it go, the car was literally crying to be replaced. He said he was never drawn to parading ‘’flashy appearances’’ but was all about building real wealth, putting money into things that when you fall, you don’t hit the ground, you fall on something you’ve built.
Speaking passionately, he criticized the growing culture where young people make major financial decisions just to impress their social media followers, people who, he pointed out, likely won’t even matter in their lives five years from now.
He also shared how disappointing it is when respected public figures, who seem to have it all, secretly struggle behind the scenes. Sometimes, he revealed, these celebrities rent luxurious homes on streets named after them, while battling with landlords because they don’t actually own the properties.
Chude encouraged young Nigerians to avoid making choices under peer pressure, especially in today’s tough economy where perception often carries more weight than reality. He warned against trying to “keep up” by forcing a lifestyle they can’t afford, like taking rides they can’t sustain just to maintain appearances. Instead, he urged them to focus on making smart, long-term decisions that will secure their future.

asa____042 : I had a conversation with someone over the weekend and we were talking about cars, i said to him, before i buy a car then i should be a landlady of 2-3 houses. Also, if I’m buying a car worth 30m, i must ensure that I’m able to afford X3 of that car. He said “ahh, so you won’t enjoy your life” i told him, enjoyment comes with wise/proper planning. What’s the essence of enjoying for a few years & suffering for more years because i failed to plan my life. Money is a spirit, but assets, business and investments can last a life time. I agree with what he said, plan so you live in plenty and enjoy later, don’t be influenced by social media.
mazitt305 : Built two houses before 30 still can’t believe how I achieved so much in my 20s all thanks to my dad…. may his soul continue to rest in peace …..
chef__eva: That iPhone thing is truepeople that use their last card to buy the latest iPhone, what’s your plan?.
duffdoris : Fact oo, no pressure can ever get to me. I have used my techno spark 2 for years until it pack up and I am using my Oppo A17 and still counting. I love luxury but I won’t go out of my way to kill or have it, contentment comes with self discipline. May God bless and grant us our heart desires .
awesometolulope : Only people with good sense of humor will know cars isn’t part of wealth but investment is the key ❤️.
intimatesbykoko2 : So much wisdom for those who understand to quickly grasp. Live life on your terms cos it’s your story. Learn to delay gratification and don’t let society pressure kill you! .
charitystven: . Never buy a thing that when you lose it, you can not quickly replace it.
